General Conference Oct 2008

I Love Conference. Now I can honestly admit, it wasn't my favorite thing when I was in elementary school and had to "sit through" 8 hours of Conference without playing... Then as I got a little older, it became more exciting because we'd go to the church building to watch the broadcast (and that meant we'd get to see other friends (aka boys) in the stake....which was always exciting;)
And then finally, I captured the vision of what Conference is all about. Conference is now one of my favorite weekends in the year. I love knowing that I can prepare myself spiritually to receive guidance and inspiration for my life. And more importantly, I know that the knowledge and insight being shared comes from God through his modern-day living Prophets and Apostles. Who can live in despair when they know God is still speaking to all His children through a Prophet, Thomas S. Monson? I'm grateful for the man of God that President Monson is--a true disciple of Jesus Christ. I just want to share a few insights I gained from the different messages (for my own future benefit) The black writing is from the message, while the colored writing are a few of my thoughts :)

Elder Perry: Don't let the stresses of life get the best of us. The best is yet to be. Find a place where you can rest from stress and worldliness.
It's so easy to get lost in the daily tasks of life that I often forget to put the stresses of life aside and make more time to ponder on the things of God--the things that are of real importance. I'm so grateful for the Temple, and to be able to serve God therein and be renewed with peace.

Elder Anderson: "Fear and faith cannot coexist in our hearts at the same time. In our days of difficulty, we choose the road of faith...You don't know everything, but you know enough."
I don't know everything there is to know about life, God, and His ways, but I know enough. I know enough to move forward in faith and confidence trying my best to live the Gospel.

President Eyring: Speak Generously of Others...don't sew seeds of disunity. Stand with the Saviour against opposition.
I should look for more opportunities to bring up the positive qualities in others....and speak up when people may be being critical of others.

Elder Cook: "At times when we may feel to say, “Hope you know, I had a hard time,” we can be assured that He is there and we are safe in His loving arms... When our beloved prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, was asked on his birthday this past August what would be the ideal gift that members worldwide could give him, he said without a moment’s hesitation, “Find someone who is having a hard time, . . . and do something for them.”
What a good thing to remember! There are days when things seem so hard. I can find peace just in knowing that I can and must go to God, and tell Him how I'm doing! Also, i love Pres. Monson's B-day wish! :)

President Monson: "There is no tomorrow to remember if we don’t do something today.... Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved. If ingratitude be numbered among the serious sins, then gratitude takes its place among the noblest of virtues."
Be grateful for your life as it is now; time passes so quickly, I don't want to look back regretting not loving the life I lived as I lived it.

Elder Corbridge: "There is only one way to happiness and fulfillment. He is the Way. Every other way, any other way, whatever other way, is foolishness."
I LOVED how straightforward and clear this message was. Christ is the way. Either we choose Him (and choose happiness) or we don't. The choice is ours.
